Welcome to SonHaven! Our journey is rooted in faith, compassion, and a shared commitment to embody the principles of Christ.
Today, we thought you might like to get to know us, the heart and soul behind this amazing venture.
SonHaven isn't just any non-profit organization. It's a sanctuary of hope, where spiritual and physical challenges are addressed with unwavering commitment and a Christ-centered love.
There are several parts to our mission. We seek to bring light to those shrouded in darkness, to foster personal healing through holistic means, and to cultivate self-sufficient communities that reflect the grace and compassion of Jesus Christ.
But what sets us apart isn't just our mission, it's our story. Our tale is of an adventure of individuals called to a divine purpose, who've listened to the whispers of God and followed his lead with unwavering faith into uncertain paths.
Let's introduce you to our SonHaven family!
Randall and Marla Vaughan have carried this vision of SonHaven for more than 26 years.
In 1998, Randall received an invitation by God to build a center of hope and healing in Northwest Missouri. He and Marla left everything behind and followed that call.
Their plan was to create a center of hope with a sustainable, educational, and healing environment for those suffering trauma and extreme poverty. Yet things did not materialize as planned. Many people have come and gone through the years with intent to invest in and support SonHaven, yet despite all the efforts, SonHaven remained a distant dream.
Suffering several setbacks, and having many doors closed, they patiently waited upon the Lord to fulfill this mission and vision he put in their hearts. After 26 years of waiting, doors are now finally opening.
In early 2023, three families left everything behind to follow God's voice. Paul and Lisa Lancaster lived in western Idaho. Nic and Mistie Sigala lived in southern Oklahoma. Janet Thurgood lived in northern Missouri. Independently, but almost simultaneously, each family felt the divine call to relocate to Northwest Missouri. Certainly, God is in the details. He designed our paths to merge by divine orchestration as we combined efforts and faith to fulfill a shared vision.
Paul and Lisa, driving cross country that spring, had no idea where they would end up. Paul had never been to Missouri.
At the same time, Nic and Mistie felt impressed to leave their lives behind in Oklahoma to return to Missouri. They uprooted with little notice and time to prepare. As our two families settled into our new lives in Missouri, we also became acquainted with the Vaughan's. We fell in love with them and their vision. We were struck with the divine mission of SonHaven and quickly realized this was intricately aligned with our own personal inspirations. We were impressed to leave our lifelong careers to turn our hearts to God's work and serving those in most need.
We testify that God leads his work if we'll just listen. Sometimes listening is not easy to do. The vision and mission of SonHaven has gone through many revisions. Just as we settle on one thing and start to pursue that direction, we feel impressed to modify or clarify its message. Those refinements have led to deep periods of reflection, sincere prayer, and intent listening to God's voice.
Our voyage was anything but smooth sailing. In the face of adversity, God tested our resolve in the most difficult situations. SonHaven is a God-inspired organization. As such, one must learn to surrender completely to God's will. That is easier said than done.
Building SonHaven has been an uphill battle. Putting all our effort, faith, and resources in God's venture, we suffered financial, emotional, and physical setbacks. We relinquished comforts, merged our lives, and embraced a communal living opportunity with open hearts. We try to embody the characteristics, intent, and integrity of SonHaven. It is not easy. Through varied trials, we discovered the true essence of faith—trusting in God's provision even in the darkest of times and trusting in one another.
Reflecting on our journey, we recognize the unique blend of talents and gifts that each member brings to this family. From healing arts to practical skills, from business acumen to spiritual wisdom, we are united in our mission to heal, uplift, and empower others through Christ.
But the journey is far from over. Guided by divine inspiration, we are called to expand our sanctuary of healing to reach out to those in need and to spread the boundless love of Christ to all corners of the earth.
