Navigating the Storm: Finding Peace When Everything’s Falling Apart

Written by Nic Sigala | May 17, 2025 4:40:50 PM

What do you do when everything starts crashing down?

When your name gets slammed, your resources dry up, the people you trusted go silent — and all you can hear is the sound of the waves rising?

Most people panic.
They run.
They shut down.
They give up.

Here’s what I’ve learned in the fire:

The safest place in the storm is being yoked to Christ.

Standing Alone, But Not Alone

I remember sitting in a jail cell, about to be arraigned.
No lawyer. No funds. No contact with my wife. Everything frozen or locked out.
And I was looking at 10 years in prison.

I had every reason to feel abandoned.
But the Lord was there — and He told me something wild:

“Represent yourself. I’ll give you the words.”

Now, let me be clear — I didn’t feel qualified. I didn’t feel strong. I didn’t even feel clear.
But His voice? That whisper? It cut through the fear.

So, I stood in that courtroom and faced a sharp attorney — a shark out for blood — who painted me like a villain.
The waves kept crashing.
Every accusation hit like a punch to the gut.
I couldn’t breathe.

I remember asking God, “Did I even hear You right? Am I really supposed to be doing this?”

And in the chaos, I heard Him again:

“Stay the course. I’m here. Speak the truth — I’ll be your voice.”

The Spirit of the Lord came upon me. And He gave me every word I needed.
Even when the attorney tried to twist the story…
Even when the courtroom was against me…
He was with me.

Eventually, the judge’s heart softened.
The charges were dropped.
And I walked out with my name still under fire — but my spirit anchored.

The Voice that Carried Me

Even after I got out, the storm didn’t stop.
People slandered me.
Communities turned.
Violence was threatened.

But His voice never left.

Step by step, He led me —
“Go here. Don’t go there. Move now. Stay put. Say nothing. Speak truth.”

That voice…
That still, small whisper…
That’s what carried me through the wilderness.

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” – John 10:27

How to Navigate the Storm

If you’re in it right now — if everything is spinning — here’s what I’ve learned:

  • Don’t move unless He says move.
When everything screams for a reaction, stillness becomes your warfare.
Your emotions don’t lead. His voice does.
  • Let peace be your compass.
Not comfort. Not consensus. Not logic.
Peace. That deep knowing — even when the skies are black — that God is with you.
  • Worship through the waves.
When you don’t know what to do, worship.
Gratitude will invite God into the room and silence the enemy’s voice.
Misery can’t stay where praise is rising.

Stay the Course

If you're in the middle of the storm, hear me:

Don't jump ship.

Don’t walk away from what God told you just because the winds got stronger.
He didn’t promise smooth sailing — but He did promise to never leave the boat.

He still speaks.
He still leads.
And His voice still calms storms.

PS:

Your storm isn’t proof that God left you.
It’s proof that He trusts you to follow Him deeper.
So breathe. Stand. Worship.
And keep listening.

He’s never lost a battle — and He’s not starting with yours.
